Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the breast imaging team in Sheffield as an Apprentice Associate Practitioner Mammographer. Working in the Breast Imaging Department you will train as an apprentice to undertake the duties of an Assistant Practitioner Mammographer which will take 12 to 18 months. At the end of the training there will be opportunity to apply for an Assistant Practitioner role.

  • NB: Due to UK apprenticeship funding regulations applicants must have a right to work in the UK, or for EU citizens hold pre-settled or settled status and have been a UK or EU resident for the last three years or have indefinite leave to remain with documents that are not due to expire during the duration of the apprenticeship contract. Applicants must also not already have a qualification at a higher level within the same subject matter.
  • There is no upper age limit on joining us as an apprentice.

Main duties of the job

You will work in the breast screening and symptomatic breast service in Sheffield to assist other members of the Breast Imaging Multidisciplinary Imaging Team in delivering a high standard of direct patient care and associated duties.

You will undertake a limited range of radiographic procedures including mammography under the supervision of a State Registered Radiographer within a documented scheme of work.

Part of the role is to ensure that safe practice is carried out in accordance with departmental protocols at all times.

The department responds efficiently and maintains NHSBSP targets for the expanding screening population of Sheffield which is currently 80,000 and meets the 28 day standard for symptomatic breast assessment.

We develop and maintain excellent multi-disciplinary working relationships, which will provide an excellent service for the women of Sheffield.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 18 months due to this being an apprenticeship/training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.

A learner/applicant must be a UK, EEA, or EU resident for at least the past three years to undertake an apprenticeship training programme.

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting.
