Job summary

Whole-Time Locum Consultant Histopathologist to South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Service based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital and South Yorkshire Bassetlaw Pathology Services. Fixed Term for 12 months.

South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Services is underpinned by the Partnership between Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Rotherham Foundation Trust, Barnsley Foundation trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Foundation Trust and Sheffield Children's Hospital Foundation Trust and is hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant staff of the Histopathology Department are organised into subspecialist reporting teams. Our consultants typically practice in 1 - 3 subspecialist areas of practice in line with their interests and with the needs of the department. Direct Clinical Care (DCC) work includes appropriate dissection, histology and cytology reporting, and MDT preparation and delivery. The department delivers laboratory and reporting activity for other providers within the SYB network, and beyond, and increases in such activity are anticipated as well as closer operational collaboration between the SYBP sites. The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Transformation Programme anticipates a single histopathology laboratory, located in Sheffield, at which all Consultant Histopathologists will be based, with named lead pathologists for each SYB Trust to act as primary contact point for service development (etc) and the appointee will be expected to undertake such a role if required, supported by appropriate SPA time.

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Postgraduate professional qualifications - FRCPath or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
