Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Public Health Midwife to join our team, working across maternity services to support the development of the public health agenda, leading on initiatives including but not limited to smoking cessation.
The post holder will support the maternity workforce to have a greater knowledge base when discussing public health. They will work closely with maternity teams and other key stakeholders to develop a maternity service that is responsive and inclusive to the needs of all women and birthing people.
Main duties of the job
Achieve and maintain the identified specialist and management competencies needed to perform the senior midwifery role within the department, ensuring that clinical knowledge is up to date and that a high standard of midwifery care is delivered
Attend appropriate national and LMNS meetings, to ensure full oversight on the Public Health agenda, liaising with the Consultant Midwife and Senior Team, when identified actions are required
Support the Education Team, to educate staff with regards any training relating to Public Health, as required.
Support innovative workstreams that will enhance and promote the Public Health agenda
Continue to develop the roles within the Smoking Cessation Team in line with new initiatives and to continually improve the care of women
Coordinate the collection of data to inform audit and service development, working closely with the Consultant Midwife and Digital Midwife to ensure accurate data within the Maternity Dashboard and as part of MSDS, Saving Babies Lives and CNST.

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.
