Job summary

We are looking to appoint to whole-time Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Breast Imaging at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Breast Imaging service to the Trust. This will be predominantly at the Royal Hallamshire site.

The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment. He/she will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence and will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and the proper functioning of the department.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
  • FRCR or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner having completed a minimum of 5 years training in clinical radiology including subspecialist training in clinical radiology
  • Completed subspecialty training in an RCR approved Breast Radiology training post (at the time of appointment)
  • The ability to undertake a broad range of Breast Radiology investigations including diagnostic & interventional procedures
  • Willingness to acquire/improve clinical skills & knowledge in Breast Imaging
  • Willingness to lead on quality improvement projects

Desirable

  • Experience of working within the NHS breast screening programme to include screen reading and participation in assessment clinics

Research

Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
  • Understanding the principles of research and interpretation of research findings
