Job summary

This is an exciting time to work in the Department of ENT.

We are consistently working towards improving the service we provide to our patients and the team is looking to recruit a motivated, dynamic individual to provide an effective support medical secretarial service to the department.

Applications are invited from individuals with effective secretarial skills who would look forward to working within a highly successful and challenging environment. An opportunity has arisen to contribute to the continuing success of this thriving regional specialty.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. With a professional approach, you will be able to liaise with staff at a variety of levels, throughout the Trust. You will also be able to communicate with patients and relatives; in particular you will have the ability to deal with telephone enquiries in a polite and efficient manner.

Main duties of the job

Our expectation is that you will be able to demonstrate competent organisational skills and initiative, prioritising your own work to meet deadlines whilst maintaining the high standards, which have become customary within the department.

An OCR 2 word processing/audio skills or equivalent qualification, GCSE English at level 4/C or equivalent and a good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages will be required for the role.

In addition, significant clerical or secretarial experience is essential.

Ideally, you will have a good understanding of the Patient Administration System (Lorenzo), a familiarity with medical terminology and previous experience in a medical environment and in a multidisciplinary team setting. However, these are not essential as training will be provided.

You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality issues and 18 week RTT pathways. Candidates should be effective team players and be able to demonstrate a flexible approach. The successful candidate can expect to work within a busy but supportive environment.

About us

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

The Directorate provides a high quality emergency, secondary and regional specialist service in Ears, Nose & Throat and its allied disciplines, Hearing Services and Neurotology. This role is pivotal in enabling the Directorate to provide a high-quality, comprehensive and professional clinical and administrative service to patients, relatives, carers and other internal and external stakeholders.

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.
