Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a driven, self-motivated individual who has high aspirations to work within the Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology (OGN) Care Group.

This is an ideal opportunity for either an experienced operational manager or someone looking to take the next step in their operational career. Supported by an ethos of compassionate leadership and effective team working, you will be responsible for supporting the management of all clinical services across the directorate. In collaboration with the Clinical, Nursing and Midwifery and Service leads, you will ensure that resources are available and deployed to provide high standards of service in a patient-centred environment. You will be jointly responsible for the delivery of financial, activity, waiting list and waiting time targets. You will provide line-management and leadership to all staff for whom they have responsibility.

This post will be based at the Trust's Jessop Wing, adjacent to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Work in collaboration across the Directorate to organise administrative and other designated support services to ensure that directorate patient care services are delivered in a responsive, efficient and cost-effective way.

Develop standards and measures of performance. In collaboration with the Department Heads and Directorate Management Team and other directorate staff, audit performance, give feedback and plan service improvements.

Ensure that the Sub-Directorate is compliant with the STHFT Access Policy. Deliver the highest standards of patient administration in support of the clinical service.

Disseminate objectives across the sub-directorate and ensure that front-line staff are made aware of them. With assistance from the Directorate Management and Information Team, develop systems to monitor performance against Trust and sub-Directorate objectives and establish appropriate reporting mechanisms.

Ensure that resources are deployed in an effective, efficient, and creative way. Assess the costs and benefits of systems/processes/staffing levels and devise alternative approaches that represent more cost-effective solutions.

Take managerial responsibility for the sub-directorates administrative and other designated non-clinical staff. Provide leadership, guidance and support to individuals and teams, guiding them towards the achievement of sub-directorate objectives.

The Jessop Wing opened in 2001 and is a purpose-built maternity unit where approximately 6,000 babies are born every year.

In addition to a 22-bed labour ward, there are three postnatal wards and one antenatal ward, an admission Triage area, and a High Dependency Unit. One of the postnatal wards specialises in caring for women who have had a caesarean section. In addition, the Jessop Wing Community Midwifery Service attend approximately 200 homebirths per year.

The Jessop Wing also provides neonatal intensive care and special care for sick and premature babies born in Sheffield and those transferred from other units who require this expertise.

On the ground floor of the Jessop Wing is the Antenatal Clinic and Gynaecology Outpatient Clinic. The Gynaecology Service also includes two wards on G Floor of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

The Jessop Wing also has an Assisted Conception Unit for women who require this specialist treatment.
