Job summary

We are looking to appoint to a 3 month fixed term 6 PA Locum Consultant Urologist with a special interest in Spinal Injuries to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is based both at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries centre at the Northern General Hospital.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The successful appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues and the Urology Nurse Specialist team, be responsible for the provision of specialist urological care for spinal injury patients. This includes delivery of outpatient clinics, diagnostic procedures and ward reviews to assess and treat patients with urological issues. The Princess Royal Spinal Cord Injury centre is the second largest of its kind in the country and is unique in the level of Urology input in to the service, enabling the centre to provide acute care, rehabilitation, resettlement and lifetime follow up. Long term complications such as pressure sores, pathological fractures, psychological/sexual dysfunction, paediatric transition and cauda equina are all addressed within the Centre. In addition, surgical expertise to contain spasticity, urinary sphincter insertion (inc post-prostactomy), contractures and tendon transfers exists within the Centre. Lastly the centre serves a wider range of disabled patients than other units including patients with Spina Bifida
