An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Named Midwife for Safeguarding Children and Young Adults to lead our dynamic and innovative maternity Safeguarding Team.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and passionate individual with strong leadership skills, who has an expert knowledge of the safeguarding adults and children's agenda and co ordinates a Think family approach.
The post holder will provide a link between staff and services, the safeguarding and vulnerabilities team and external agencies.
The post holder will be a highly visible senior midwife, providing specialist knowledge, advice and clinical expertise to all staff in maternity services in all areas of Safeguarding Children/Child Protection.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills and be able to build positive relationships with internal and external professionals, provide advice and support on safeguarding matters to individual staff and services, and support the team to deliver training and supervision.
Main duties of the job
To ensure that the Trust's systems and procedures for safeguarding babies are regularly monitored, evaluated and reviewed to minimise risk.
Carry out audit to ensure that safeguarding practice within maternity is safeguarding vulnerable women, babies and older siblings under the direction of the Head of Midwifery and the Trust Head of Safeguarding.
To provide expert professional advice and support regarding safeguarding children to clinical staff and other front line staff within maternity services.
To ensure support and advice to staff is readily available and that there is clear guidance as to whom to contact for out of hours advice.
To work closely with the Trust's Head of Safeguarding and Named Professionals to develop policy and practice.
To ensure that high quality supervision is provided to case holding midwives and that attendance is recorded and monitored.
To assist staff in preparing reports and witness statements and support them if they are required to attend.

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.
