Job summary

Under direction of the Urology Surgeons the post holder will participate in appropriate aspects of pre-operative care, surgical intervention and postoperative management of the patient pathway.

The Surgical First Assistant will work within a defined scope of practice and to agreed clinical standards within a local setting. The post holder will be expected to perform these duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge.

Main duties of the job

Provide skilled assistance as part of the surgical team to ensure the effective and safe delivery of patient care in the peri-operative environment.

Provide skilled assistance to the surgeon during the peri-operative period, utilising skills acquired during training as a Surgical First Assistant in relation to urology surgery and use of the surgical robot.

  • RGN
  • Professional education to Degree level
  • Current NMC/HCPC Registration
  • Intuitive Surgical First Assist Training or equivalent competences
  • Willingness to complete Robotic First Assistant competences

Desirable

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.

Experience

  • Extensive experience working in Urology Operating Theatre

Desirable

  • Urology experience

Further Training

  • Will be expected to undertake further professional development courses as defined by role (e.g. Pre-admission assessment / Non-medical Prescribing).
