Job summary
Clinical Engineering are looking for 2 enthusiastic apprentices to work in the department to train to manage medical devices through their complete life cycle within the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH) and it's community settings.
The apprenticeship will consist of attending a part time distancing learning Healthcare Science level 6 (degree) Clinical Engineering Apprenticeship course over a three year period with an End Point Assessment (EPA) after completion of the academic course. There are occasions when attendance at the university will be necessary but hotels near the University will be provided along with transport to Bristol and back.
20% of the working week will be given to the apprentices to complete the university course, this is a combination of attending on line lectures and writing up assignments, with on the job training taking place over the remaining 80% of the week.
Employment will depend on qualifications gained to allow entry onto the degree and will commencing around the end of August to the beginning of September 2024. Apprentices will be expected to work from any of the STH sites to gain knowledge of different medical devices.
Although this is a four year contract the apprentices will be offered permanent contracts on an AfC band 5 on successful completion of the training.

Year 1 - 60% = £20748 p/a
Year 2 - 65% = £22477 p/a
Year 3 - 70% =£24206 p/a
Year 4 - 75% = £25935 p/a
Main duties of the job

We are looking for applicants who are interested in working in an engineering field for the management of a variety of medical devices, these can range from simple through to complex devices.
As healthcare provision is changing so is the rapid change in technology being applied to medical devices resulting in an exiting time to join this career pathway in Healthcare Science. This is a hands on role and the applicant will be involved in the acceptance testing, servicing, repairing, incident management, planned replacement planning and decommissioning of the Trusts medical devices of which there are over 50,000 on the database. Eye to hand co-ordination is required with good practical skills along with the academic ability to obtain the degree apprenticeship.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 4 years due to this being an apprenticeship/training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.
A learner/applicant must be a UK, EEA, or EU resident for at least the past three years to undertake an apprenticeship training programme.
Clinical Engineering have three workshops these are based at the Northern General Hospital, Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Sheffield Children's Hospital.
