Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant in General Internal Medicine ( Speciality Interest) to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

This is a whole-time (10 PA) post that has been developed as part of a broader ongoing re-organisation and expansion of the Department of Medicine. The department manages a large number of both specialist and general medical wards. In addition, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest Trusts in the country and provides extensive specialist care both locally and regionally. The posts can be tailored to an individual's sub-speciality interest across the full range of medical specialities.

The post will include weekend cover, as part of the consultant on call rota, take an active part in the Clinical Governance activities of the Directorate, both in relation to continuing professional development and the quality and effectiveness of clinical services.

Essential

  • Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Postgraduate professional qualifications as appropriate to post

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent
  • Applicant must hold of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General (Internal) Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Ability to work as an independent consultant in GIM. Possess the broad clinical experience relevant to GIM, plus experience of working in the NHS.

Research

Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and Training

Essential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

CPD

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Managment and Administration

  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management.
