Job summary

WPCC are looking for a Physician Associate with an interest in oncology.

The successful candidate will be trained in acute ward based oncology and may progress towards outpatient services as skills and competencies develop in line with service need. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and supervised by a named consultant.

STH has a pioneering PA programme with regular PA-specific training. The successful candidate will also attend the departmental training programme including junior doctor teaching and PGME (post graduate medical education). The department has an extensive audit and research programme and the successful candidate will be encouraged to participate according to their own interests. The department provides paid study leave for continuing professional development outside the trust, in-line with the candidate's own personal development plan. The allocation is 3 days in the first year of the programme, rising to 5 days in the second and any subsequent years. There is opportunity to develop new skills and competencies.

Main duties of the job

  • To assess and examine patients admitted to Weston Park Cancer Centre. This might be on initial presentation to WAU (Weston Park Admissions Unit), later in their stay on an inpatient ward or in the daycase unit.
  • The initiation and interpretation of investigations and institution of treatment for patients
  • To support discharge of patients as appropriate
  • Opportunity to develop new skills and competencies
  • To exercise a high degree of personal autonomy in assessing, managing and planning care for patients
  • To develop extensive specialist knowledge and experience in Oncology, acting as a resource to the wider clinical team
