Job summary
We are looking for both band 7 and 8a clinical psychologists to work with us in our well established neuropsychology team. We have posts at both band 7 and band 8a; many of these hours are available due to previous post holders securing promotion into other roles. We have also secured additional investment to help reduce patient waiting times.
There are two band 7 roles (total 1.5wte) who will work into the neuropsychology outpatient clinic (based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Nether Edge) and the Osborn 4 post-acute neurorehabilitation ward at the Northern General Hospital (0.5wte). The 8a post is an inpatient role based in Osborn 4 and Older Adults (total 0.7wte); there may be opportunities in other services for candidates who wish to work full time.
Funding is available to support the 8a postholder to gain the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN). Similar support could also be sought for the band 7 posts, if desired. We actively support CPD and have a rolling CPD programme for the whole team including both local and guest speakers on a variety of topics.
New members of staff receive a warm welcome. There are options for hybrid/flexible working, and observation and shadowing are encouraged. All staff have a dedicated clinical supervisor.
Main duties of the job
Within the neuropsychology team we cover inpatient and outpatient services across many of clinical areas such as stroke, motor neurone disease, neuro rehab, dementia, neurosurgery, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, dementia, ataxia and Parkinson's disease, amongst others. We have a number of assistant psychologists who assist with testing, audit and general support to the qualified clinicians. Referrals are received from neurologists and neurosurgeons who are highly regarded specialists in their fields, seeing patients from a wide geographical area.
Our outpatient service provides high quality, in depth neuropsychological assessment that can be diagnostic in nature or provide a profile of strengths and difficulties to support adjustment. On Osborn 4, psychologists provide cognitive screening, mood assessment, psychoeducation, complex case advice (8a) and complex capacity assessments (8a), all as part of the well-established, supportive MDT.
As part of our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, we're reviewing our care pathways across the department, including neuropsychology, ensuring we can give the best care to our patients who may have had extended waiting times. This is a collaborative process between staff, hospital management and patients and all contributions and ideas are welcome.
About us
You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.
The successful candidates will be part of the STHFT Department of Psychological Services (DPS), a supportive group of psychological practitioners working across a range of health and medical specialities, as well as Occupational Health. This provides great opportunities for split posts across more than one speciality. As a dynamic department, we have seen considerable growth in recent years and continue to have a range of new service development opportunities in our portfolio.
DPS has more than 30 qualified clinicians, Assistant and Trainee Clinical Psychologists as well as a dedicated team of Administrative and Clerical staff. There are strong links with the University of Sheffield, Department of Clinical Psychology, as well as Leeds and Hull DClinPsy courses. We have growing links with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) and local research partners. Continuing professional development is strongly supported, as appropriate to the individual's and organisation's requirements.
