Job summary

Whole-Time Locum Consultant in Gynaecology with an interest in benign gynaecology to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Jessop Wing of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. This post is fixed term for 12 months, to cover maternity leave.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of a Comprehensive Gynaecology Service; providing outpatient and inpatient benign gynaecology, hysteroscopy (diagnostic and treatment) and fast track services. He/she will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence and will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and the proper functioning of the department.

The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • MRCOG Postgraduate professional qualification

Clinical experience

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in benign Gynaecology.
  • Evidence of competence in contemporary management strategies in benign gynaecology
  • Willingness to acquire/improve clinical skills and knowledge in benign Gynaecology
