Job summary

The Sheffield Kidney Institute serves the population of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire . We recognise the importance of a Patient centred approach to the way in which we treat and care for our patients.

We therefore have Haemodialysis units close to the patients including at Chesterfield d Royal Hospital

There are currently 12 haemodialysis stations , 64 patients who attend for their treatment 3 times per week.

The Nursing team is responsible for the day to day care/management of the patients including haemodialysis treatment

All staff are highly trained to undertake the haemodialysis treatment, through a robust training programme which is supported

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Support Worker you will provide vital assistance to patients and support them with their physical and emotional care needs.

You will also be responsible for assisting healthcare professionals in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients.

Main Duties of this role:

  • Assessment of the patient
  • Undertaking vital signmanagement
  • Maintenance of Haemodialysis
  • Termination of haemodialysis treatment
  • Ongoing review and assessment of patient
  • Maintaining fluid and nutritionalintake
  • Line/priming of Haemodialysis machine

  • Completion of the STH 5 day Healthcare Support Worker Programme (HCSW) within the 12 months prior to employment, OR attendance at the programme on employment [undertaken on a full time basis after appointment, upon induction]
  • Achievement of the Care Certificate OR commitment to completion of the Care Certificate within four months of employment

Desirable

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 3/D or above (or equivalent, which would include Functional Skills Level 1)

Experience

  • Experience of working in a caring environment or Experience as a carer

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Must be willing to undertake training as required which is specific to the post as identified through service delivery
  • The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
