JUNIOR CLINICAL FELLOWS/JUNIOR CLINICAL TEACHING FELLOW IN ORTHOPAEDICS
SHEFFIELD TEACHING HOSPITAL
An exciting opportunity has arisen for 4 x Junior Clinical Fellows in Orthopaedics to join our team. 3 of the posts are Junior Trauma Fellows, and the 4th is a Junior Teaching Fellow. At interview, applicants will be asked to provide their preference of post and will be offered on the basis of scoring and raking after the completion of the interview process. At the time of the interviews, if there have been any vacancies identified on the Core Surgical Training rotation, further LAS appointments may be offered on the same terms.
The Junior Trauma Fellow appointments are to commence February 2024 for a fixed term period of 12 months. MBBS or equivalent is essential. The posts do not award a National Training Number. As these posts are not recognised as 'training posts', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to F2/CT1/CT2
Main duties of the job
These posts are ideal for those candidates wishing to pursue a career in any surgical specialty as well as orthopaedic Surgery. There is opportunity within this large and prestigious unit to expand on clinical, operative, educational and academic skills which will assist in becoming competitive for recruitment to higher surgical training programmes.
The successful applicants will be expected to work at a minimum of Foundation Year 2 level up to the level of CT2. The main duties will be to the management of orthopaedic patients at a ward level. However, the daytime rota ensures that the applicants will have protected time to be able to attend theatre sessions and outpatient clinics. Ward duties will be to maintain continuity of care and deal with urgent orthopaedic related problems. They will attend the trauma multi-disciplinary meeting on a daily basis each morning and will act as liaison within the team.

There is plenty of clinical training opportunities for the successful candidate with the support of on-site Registrar reviews of patients in the Emergency Department and wards plus practical experience such as fracture reductions, joint manipulations and aspirations. In addition there will be protected time is available for attendance to consultant led theatre lists and outpatient clinics.
