Job summary

The Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner is working towards / The Qualified ACP will be an autonomous, accountable practitioner who will work on their own initiative and in collaboration with medical, nursing, and allied health professional colleagues as required

Until signed off as competent, the Trainee ACP will work under the supervision of qualified clinician whilst developing the skills that enable them to become an autonomous practitioner.

The role will be structured around the four core functions of advanced practice:

  • Expert clinical practice (with a minimum clinical focus of 80%)
  • Professional leadership and consultancy
  • Education, training and development of self and others
  • Practice and service development, research, and evaluation

The ACP should have a minimum of 12hrs per month (pro rata) for work relating to the non-clinical pillars and to ensure maintenance of competency in all areas of the role. This will facilitate improvements to patient care through the education of others, and quality/service improvement associated with leadership and research activities.

The practitioner also should be working towards completion of the non-clinical pillars at this time and specialist curricula where available. This will be assessed at the yearly ACP bespoke appraisal known as a Clinical Academic Support Panel (CASP). This will verify the practitioner has demonstrated the baseline level of competence to facilitate autonomous practice.

Main duties of the job

To achieve and maintain the identified specialised competencies of an Advanced Clinical Practitioner. During the training period the post holder will be expected to undertake the roles listed in the person specification / job description as they develop the skills under supervision / guidance of an appropriately qualified clinician.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 2 years due to this being an apprenticeship/training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.

  • The candidate must already have a minimum of 60 credits at level 7 study that can be transferred into the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Evidence of relevant continuous professional development
  • Advanced life support qualification (ALS/ILS) or willingness to undertake and successfully complete
