Job summary

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking IT Systems Support Engineers in our Server and Storage team.

Due to the critical nature of the Trusts IT systems in the delivery of patient care, we are looking for engineers with experience of current monitoring and alerting toolsets.

Ideally candidates will have implementation, development and maintenance experience with Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager or VMware vRealize Suite (vRealize Operations Manager - vROps, vRealize Log Insights -vRLI and vRealize Network Insights vRNI), or possibly another monitoring platform with transferable skills.

Main duties of the job

What we expect from you:

  • User focus. You can identify needs and engage with users or stakeholders to collate user needs evidence. You understand and can define research that fits user needs.
  • Technical specialism. You can assist in technical support activities and carry out agreed / routine maintenance and administration tasks.
  • Continual service improvement. You know about developing process efficiency and common ways in which processes are optimised. You can support specific activities to improve development processes.
  • Incident management. You can identify and register incidents, gathering the required information and allocating it to the appropriate channel. Ensure that services are delivered to the Trusts SLAs..
  • Problem management. You can investigate problems in systems, processes and services, with an understanding of the level of a problem (for example, strategic, tactical, operational).
  • Coding, scripting and automation. You know and can utilise current scripting tools and software that are available.
  • Asset and configuration management. You can maintain secure configuration and accurate information, verifying location and state of assets.
  • Communication and intra Team working. Work particularly closely with other technology support teams to ensure cross training of staff to develop the team's skill set and knowledge base.
  • Availability and capacity management. You know how to manage service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets.

The IT Services Department is part of the Informatics Directorate and is responsible for strategy, design, transition and operational management of the IT Portfolio in conjunction with other specialist areas of Informatics.

Supporting over 20,000 users across 5 hospitals and multiple sites across the region, the department operates within a Service Management Framework (ITIL) and has a number of mature service management processes in place which operate across the Departmental structure. A Continual Service Improvement Programme is in place which aims to develop other ITIL processes and improve existing ones to ensure that the service delivered meets the business requirements of the Trust.
