Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic proactive registered nurse with a passion for education, on an 8 month secondment within ward I1 at Sheffield teaching hospitals - NHS foundation trust. Based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, the clinical educator for I1 will promote a positive learning environment, which facilitates the development and educational needs of staff and patients.
The post holder will lead and promote high quality care by supporting the development and the delivery of education packages for staff. This will ensure a competent and confident nursing workforce, able to meet service needs.
JOB PURPOSE
- To lead the development of education, training and clinical skills programme within the Ear Nose and Throat inpatient and outpatient setting that meets the needs of the nursing/multidisciplinary team.
- To develop a strategy for the development or the education of the nursing workforce.
- To take a leading role in promoting and developing evidence based practice across the Directorate
- To teach and mentor both pre and post registration nursing students and staff as required.
- To provide care to Head and Neck patients, Ophthalmic /ENT/Max Fax
Main duties of the job
As a clinical educator you will be expected to:
- Have a passion for education.
- Model high professional standards of care and promote a culture of learning, to provide professional and clinical practice training.
- Be a visible practice presence in the clinical learning environments within clinical support services, providing support to learners to enable them to achieve their learning objectives.
- Provide support to those assessing supervising students/learners on a range of programmes.
- Assist supervisors, assessors, practice educators and departmental managers to facilitate the integration of theory and practice within the clinical environment for a variety of learners.
- Maintain accurate records of training assessment and support provided and provide reports as requested.
- Deliver a robust induction to learners who are commencing placements.
- Assist staff with access to supervisor and education training.
- Deliver teaching sessions on a variety of clinical programmes including preceptorship.
- Support the establishment and the maintenance of a portfolio of high quality practice placements that support the learning needs of learners.
- Support trust wide clinical training needs.
- Provide opportunities for professional development.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 8 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.
