Job summary

Are you an experienced senior operations leader? Are you passionate about delivering the best possible health and care for patients?

As one of our Operations Directors, you'll be responsible for the effective senior leadership and day-to-day operational and business management for a range of departments and services within one of our clinical care groups. We currently have vacancies within the following care groups:

  • Medicine and Pharmacy Services (MAPS) - Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Respiratory, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Pharmacy services
  • Specialist Cancer Services
  • South Yorkshire Regional Services (SYRS) - Cardiothoracic, Renal and Vascular services

Reporting to our Trust Executive Group, this is an exciting opportunity to operate at the highest level of the one of the country's largest and most successful NHS Foundation Trusts, where you'll be a key contributor in setting the strategic direction and delivery of services to our communities in South Yorkshire and beyond.

Day-to-day you'll work alongside the care group's Clinical Director and Nurse Director, where you'll ensure directorates are well-managed and have the staff, capability, and resources they need to deliver the best possible care and clinical standards and can meet their objectives.

Main duties of the job

As Operations Director, you'll provide senior leadership and oversight for a range of strategic, operational and business management activities for your respective care group, including the consistent delivery of key quality and performance standards, income and activity targets, productivity and efficiency plans, and robust annual business plans.

You'll also have collective responsibility with your respective Clinical Director and Nurse Director for the strategic development of services in the care group, the delivery of key performance indicators and objectives, achieving the clinical and healthcare standards required to comply with high-quality, well-governed, and patient-centred services.

  • Educated to degree level or evidence of very extensive and directly relevant operational management experience at a senior level.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Desirable

  • Educated to masters level in a management discipline.

Special Skills/Aptitudes

  • Ability to manage complex change over medium and long term timescales within their own team and at the interface with other teams and organisations

Experience

Essential

  • Significant senior management experience gained within a large and complex customer focused organisation
  • Experience of managing large budgets within a complex financial regimen and experience of people management
  • Experience of managing a service over a number of financial years in order to develop budgetary, management and variance analysis.
  • Experience of managing the HR environment of a multi-disciplinary workforce numbering hundreds and application of organisational policies, wider employment law and practice.

  • Sound understanding of the wider NHS policy agenda and demonstrable ability to translate national and local policy into action
