LAS Dental Core Trainee (DCT1/2/3) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Job summary

The appointment is to commence 06/09/2023 for a fixed term period until 03/09/2024, with the possibility of extension. The level of post ranges between DCT1 - DCT3, candidate's experience and qualifications will be assessed to suitably place them. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GDC or GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.

Main duties of the job

  • To cover maxillofacial surgery 1:8 weekend on-call non-resident.
  • Provide support on the tier 1 Resident DCT on call rota.
  • Provide professional clinical support to the Tier 1 DCTs who are resident 24/7.
  • Work closely with the DCTs and Consultant as part of the on-call team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Registration with the General Dental Council
  • Basic Medical Degree or Basic Dental Degree
  • For candidates to eligible for DCT3, they must possess both MBChB and BDS or equivalencies
  • Completion of Dental foundation competencies for DCT1 & DCT2 posts
  • Completion of Dental & Medical Foundation competencies for DCT3 post

Desirable

  • Doing medicine or dentistry as a second degree
  • Wider experience in different Oral & Maxillofacial units
  • MFDS, MJDF, FDS, iMRCS or equivalent
  • Post graduate qualification e.g. MD PhD

Audit/Research

Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
  • Ideas for future research whilst in post

Teaching

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching medical students, dental students and junior doctors.
  • To have the ability and willingness to teach at all levels and to all groups of staff
