Job summary
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Pre-Specialty Clinical Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (OMFP) working at DCT3 level. The successful candidate will be based at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield.
This appointment is due to commence 06th September 2023 for a fixed term period of 12 months until 03rd September 2024.
The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GDC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.
Main duties of the job
This Pre-Specialty Clinical Fellow (CF) post in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (OMFP) in Sheffield is a unique post offering a fully integrated experience into a diagnostic pathology service. We are the largest NHS training unit for OMFP in the UK and you will be supervised and supported by an experiencedteam of three consultants and 3 specialist trainees.

This post is ideally suited to individuals who already have first-hand pathology experience at DCT2 level and wish to further their skills and knowledge in this specialty. As such we are keen to nurtureand develop your abilities in diagnostic pathology, allowing you to gain further experience in microscopic assessment both in diagnostic biopsies and resection work. Furthermore, you will gain invaluable experience in Oral Medicine and Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology through one sessions per week (in each specialty) on a Consultant clinic or a reporting session.
We will actively encourage and supportthe appointed Clinical Fellow to be involved in undergraduate teaching for which there are many opportunities to help with lectures, case seminars and virtual microscopy classes. The CF will have fantastic opportunities for involvement in clinical audits and a possibility of involvement in on-going research projects within the department. The post is ideal to those individuals who are interested in a career in diagnostic OMFP, with the intention that this post should put you in a strong position to apply for a SpR/ACF position in the future and support Specialist Entry in OMFP at National recruitment.
Above all, enthusiasm for OMFP and commitment to specialty is essential and we are keen to train those who wish to pursue this as a career and have already taken steps to acquire DCT2 level experience. Many of our past junior trainees and fellows have gone on to secure specialist training positions in OMFP and some of them are even consultants now!
