Job summary
We're looking for a dynamic clinical pharmacist with extensive NHS post-registration experience, to help us deliver fantastic advanced-level pharmacy care to our critical care patients.
Our friendly, dynamic team of clinical pharmacists and technicians provide seven-day specialist- covering 80 Level 2 and 3 beds across general, neurosciences and cardiac units within one of the UK's busiest trauma centres. We play a valued and active role in multiprofessional ward rounds where independent prescribing is the norm.
You'll also be part of a driven and supportive team that works hand-in-hand with a wide range of healthcare staff who value our work and its impact on patient care. With the contribution of a Consultant Critical Care Pharmacist, the team has extensive senior leadership and clinical experience, highly values development, and has a national reputation for pioneering pharmacy-led research, including national grant projects, research mentorship, and several high-profile journal publications.
As well as significant post-registration experience and a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy (or equivalent) alongside excellent clinical leadership, interpersonal and communications skills. Ideally, you'll also have Independent Prescriber status and Foundation-level or a year's equivalent critical care pharmacy experience, though exceptional candidates with advanced-level practice in another acute hospital specialty will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The role also comes with plenty of opportunities for you to develop and grow into a fantastic critical care pharmacist, including in-house training, mentoring and leadership development, programmes to develop your clinical skills by rotating and gaining experience across our different units and specialist fields, and your non-technical skills through having devolved areas of leadership and the chance to be involved in research studies and projects
Day-to-day, you'll be responsible for the clinical service delivery as well as providing clinical leadership, guidance, and support to foundation-level critical care colleagues.
- Delivering, developing and evaluating clinical pharmacy services to critical care patients across STH in accordance with the objectives set by the Principal Pharmacist - Critical Care and Clinical Directorate management representative (where applicable) in order to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of drugs.
- Attend and actively contributing to multiprofessional ward rounds in critical care areas.
- Contributing to clinical pharmacy services, and weekends in critical care.
- Where necessary, providing total parenteral nutrition (TPN) to critically ill patients.
While the role does involve some weekend working, our shift times are staggered meaning you'll miss the worst of a rush hour commute. Our nine-day fortnight working pattern means you'll have an extra day off every other week.
About us
You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.
