Job summary

Whole-time Consultant Neurologist to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with outreach responsibilities to the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee, together with consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of adult neurological services to the Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals & Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The appointee will beexpected to contribute to the routine outpatient general neurological workload and provide a ward liaison service at Bassetlaw Hospital, as well as general and sub-specialty clinics in Sheffield at the Royal HallamshireHospital. The appointee will also be expected to actively participate in the management of acute neurological admissions and in-patients including the management of acute stroke referrals and in-patients as part ofroutine weekday and all out of hours periods.

The person appointed will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. He/she will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and the proper functioning of the Department.

In line with the directorate's policy to support research there are opportunities for appointees with the appropriate research interest and expertise to apply to the Academic Research Directorate for up to 1research SPA depending on their research aspirations and if supported by the appropriate research theme lead.
