Job summary
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a whole-time Consultant Thoracic Surgeon based at the Northern General Hospital. The successful candidate will join a team of 4 Thoracic Consultant Surgeons supporting the provision of specialist care across a wide range of thoracic clinical pathways providing surgical treatment for benign and malignant thoracic conditions with a 1:5 on-call rota.
The successful candidate will have experience and expertise in the surgical management of thoracic malignancies, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, mediastinal pathologies, mesothelioma, lung volume reduction by endobronchial and VATS techniques, intrathoracic and chest wall sarcoma resection and reconstruction, thoracic trauma, pleural diseases including empyema and pneumothorax, endobronchial surgery and navigational bronchoscopy.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will be responsible for the provision of the thoracic surgery service as part of the team of Consultant Thoracic Surgeons, to enable Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust to fulfil its service agreements with its commissioners.
The appointee will be expected to take part in the administrative work relevant to his/her clinical commitment and to contribute to the work of the Directorate. The appointee will also be expected to take an active part in Clinical Audit.
The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice. You will also have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within six months of the date of interview.
