Clinical Engineer (Electro-Mechanical Supervisor)

Job summary

A vacancy exists for an enthusiastic engineer to work in a small group providing maintenance and repair to hospital beds and other basic electro-mechanical medical devices to stringent quality standards.

The post holder will work within an ISO 9001 Quality system, providing a highly specialised rapid response service to direct patient connected medical equipment. This work includes repairing faults, first, second, third and fourth line maintenance and installation to an ever increasing range complex, specialised electronic, electro-medical, electro-hydraulic, electro-pneumatic, mechanical and medical gas systems. This service is provided to this Trust and throughout the Sheffield area and also extends outside the area to patients homes.

They will also supervise a small team of engineers to deliver the service.

Main duties of the job

  • Work under own initiative as part of a team, but often working alone in isolated environments.
  • Supervise the team of engineers in the Electro-mechanical group
  • Ensure all devices under the group are serviced and maintained in accordance with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Carry out basic audits under the QMS
  • Work in accordance with the departmental ISO 9001 quality system.
  • Provide advice (which may be of a complex nature) to all levels of staff including Consultants, Nurse Managers, Nurses, Healthcare Professionals and Suppliers.
  • Deliver a high quality rapid response service on patient connected medical equipment.
  • Participation in "in house" and external courses and seminars
  • Undertake continuing professional development, maintain a professional portfolio and have a commitment to the training and development of other professional colleagues.
  • Participate in mandatory study days.

  • Vocational degree in clinical technology (engineering) or equivalent. Or equivalent to satisfy the requirements of the register of clinical technologists
  • Specialist training courses on beds or Electro-mechanical devices

  • Registration as a clinical technologist with the Health Professions Council.
