Job summary
Applications are invited for two Whole Time Consultant posts in Acute Medicine to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The Acute Medicine Unit works closely with the Emergency Medicine Department using jointly developed protocols for managing non-elective medical admissions and ambulatory care of patients with multiple comorbidities. These are new posts working with an established team of experienced physicians with opportunities for cross specialty input.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will be responsible for leading the assessing team for Acute Medicine and providing a Consultant opinion for all patients referred for emergency medical admission (including telephone triage). This will include the provision of immediate medical opinion for seriously ill patients at the request of junior medical staff. The acute take is divided nominally according to the on take medical specialties and the duty acute medicine consultants divide the real time reviews between them.

You will also have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within six months of the date of interview.
