Job summary
As a result of the departure of a highly experienced consultant colleague earlier in the year and the upcoming retirement of another eminent member of the consultant team, we are now recruiting to two permanent Consultant Vascular Interventional Radiologist (VIR) posts. With the full support of the Trust Executive Group, the Directorate of Vascular Services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals has been undergoing a positive transformation over recent years. As a unit, Sheffield Vascular Institute has always had great success in recruiting excellent candidates who have trained locally. However, due to a number of factors including most notably the loss of considerable knowledge and expertise, we are now specifically aiming to attract external candidates into the team. As such, we would welcome early discussions with any potential applicants to ensure alignment of the priorities of the service with the ideas and interests of candidates.
We believe that the opportunity to play a key role in establishing STH as a centre of excellence for Vascular Services is one that is challenging but ultimately also highly rewarding. If you are interested in exploring this opportunity, please contact Mr Akhtar Nasim (Clinical Director) or Dr Steve Thomas (VIR Lead)
Main duties of the job
We are now seeking two outstanding candidates to support the VIR input required to drive improvements and developments in vascular pathways, especially Critical Limb Ischaemia, complex EVAR/TEVAR and Renal Fistula Salvage, and non-vascular pathways, especially Interventional Oncology (SIRT and TACE), all forms of embolisation and hepato-biliary intervention including TIPS. Whilst there is a primary requirement to focus on the delivery of core services, there is also a commitment to support the robust development of highly specialist aspects of the service as well as research activities. The specialist imaging required to support the range of pathways will also naturally be an essential element of these roles. These appointments offer an exciting opportunity for both newly qualified and established consultants, with ample opportunities to develop the service in their area of specialist interest.
