Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a Whole-Time Consultant in Cardiology to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital. The successful candidate will specialise in trans-catheter aortic valve intervention; previous experience in other structural intervention is also desirable.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues

This is a replacement post due to retirement.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of cardiology & trans-catheter valve interventional services to enable Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust to fulfil its service agreements with its commissioners. The TAVI service was commissioned by NHSE in 2017 to deliver approximately 100 cases per year initially, with plans to expand significantly. TAVI cases undertaken currently including a range of patients including high risk and valve-in-valve cases, and access via femoral, axillary, and direct routes. The TAVI team has also been involved in several major research projects. There are good, established relations with recently appointed cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons and exciting times lie ahead in the development of the percutaneous structural service of which this replacement post is an integral part.
The successful candidate will also participate in the interventional on call rota, including provision of the primary PCI service, within a team of 15 interventional consultants. In addition to this, the successful candidate will be joining a team of 28 Consultant colleagues providing secondary and tertiary cardiology services.
The appointee will be expected to take part in the administrative work relevant to his/her clinical commitment and to contribute to the work of the Directorate. The appointee will also be expected to take an active part in Clinical Audit.

- Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- MRCP or equivalent
