As part of the pioneering Physician Associates programme at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Haematology are recruiting a full time Physicians Associate to work on our inpatient wards, Haematology Day ward, and with colleagues in our Outpatient clinics, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Physician Associates to deliver support to the medical and nursing teams caring for Haematology patients. The successful candidate will be trained in acute ward based Haematology as well as to carry out a number of procedures, key to the delivery of Haematology care.
Working days are Mon-Fri with occasional weekend work.
Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must:
- Comply with the standards as established by the UK Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register
- Work within the framework of the scope of professional practice
- Take and pass the national re-certification examination every five years, as recommended by the National Examination Sub Committee of the UK Universities Board of Physician Associate Education
- The post holder will be trained in acute ward based Haematology and may progress towards outpatient services as skills and competencies develop in line with service need. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and supervised by a named consultant.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge, skills, and performance
- To manage a caseload of patients as determined by the consultant, exercising a high level of professional judgement and expertise when delivering care. This could include taking medical histories, undertaking physical examinations, discharge planning, making complex diagnoses and explaining conditions during consultations.
- To assess and examine patients, initiate, and interpret investigations and recommend treatment
- To exercise a high degree of personal autonomy in assessing, managing, planning and co-ordinating care for patients in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team
- To develop extensive specialist knowledge and experience within the speciality, acting as a resource to the wider clinical team
Safety and quality
- Ensure you understand and comply with all departmental, service and Trust Policies and Procedures at all times, cascading any information to staff as and when appropriate and required.
- To report and escalate via appropriate channels any incidents, behaviours and actions that would endanger patient / staff safety, or that are not in line with the Trust's policies or values, contributing to the investigation and resolution of any such issues as required.
- Ensure adherence to moving and handling policy and procedures when in contact with / manoeuvring patients.
- Ensure you complete, and remain compliant with, all mandatory training required of you by the Trust, and accurate training records are maintained.
