Job summary

Applications for this post are invited from Clinical Scientists with an appetite to address the challenges of service growth and improvement, underpinned by strong experience in Radiation Protection, Diagnostic Radiology and Quality Assurance.

As a member of the Radiology Physics Group the post holder will be responsible for acting as a Medical Physics Expert within the Diagnostic Radiology Sub-group and delivering high quality Radiation Protection, Quality Assurance and scientific support services to Radiology departments within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other NHS and commercial organisations within South Yorkshire and beyond.

Main duties of the job

The focus of this post is the delivery of efficient, high-quality Radiation Protection, Quality Assurance and leading edge imaging. This will require working with the DR Sub-group to provide ongoing optimisation of Group services to support clinical developments.

We require applicants who can rise to the challenge of delivering a multisite/multi-customer service. Support for research and development programs and active involvement in teaching and training will be expected. The Group is actively involved in quality assurance, clinical service development and research across modalities.

Applications are invited from Clinical Scientists who are registered Medical Physics Experts.

Essential

  • Honours degree in Physical Science at 1st, 2(i), 2(ii) level or equivalent
  • Postgraduate degree in Medical Physics or relevant subject area
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a clinical scientist

Desirable

  • PhD or equivalent level of knowledge/expertise in Radiological Physics / Imaging XApplication

Further training

Essential

  • Accredited as a Medical Physics Expert by RPA2000

Desirable

  • Experience of service improvement and relevant methodologies.
  • Evidence of training in management practices
  • Experience of research and development relevant to the services delivered

  • Diagnostic Radiology Physics, including the direct provision of clinical services, with a good track record of scientific activity and proven ability
  • Evidence of highly developed specialist training and practical experience in the use and testing of diagnostic radiology equipment, (including digital mammography, CT scanners, interventional fluoroscopy equipment, DR and CR imaging systems etc.) specialist test and measurement phantoms and dosimetry equipment calibration.
