Job summary

This is a unique opportunity to be part of the senior leadership team working to improve pathology services across the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Network.

The SYB Pathology Network builds on the high quality pathology services currently provided in each of the five Acute Trusts to provide the best possible service for patients across the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint. It is our mission to deliver high-quality and innovative laboratory medicine solutions to patients, clinicians and partners to improve health, add value to patient care, safeguard best clinical outcomes and support the transformation of healthcare across SYB and beyond.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing strong transformational leadership and professional scientific advice within a climate of change, which enables high quality patient-centred services to be delivered to patients across SYB and beyond.

Along with the Clinical Director and Operations Director you will have collective responsibility for the strategic development of services in the Network; the delivery of key performance indicators and objectives, achieving the clinical and healthcare standards required to comply with high quality and well governed, patient-centred services.

Ensuring that the SYB Pathology Network is at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation, you will enjoy working with complexity and across a matrix of relationships extending beyond your immediate role and boundaries.

  • Masters level understanding of Pathology Scientific Disciplines
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist
  • Evidence of Continued Professional development
  • MBA or equivalent level of knowledge/experience of leadership, strategy and management
  • Expert understanding of specialist healthcare science activities and management knowledge acquired through higher specialist training

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of senior professional leadership and operational management across a range of scientific speciality settings
  • Demonstrable experience managing clinical services and of leading improvements in scientific and diagnostic settings, patient care and experience across multiple specialities
  • Knowledge and experience of human resources management, communicating highly complex and contentious information to individuals and large groups
  • Experience of managing budgets and financial resources, including the associated processes such as budget setting and financial planning
  • Experience of actively leading service improvements across multiple areas
  • In depth knowledge of the clinical governance agenda including clinical risk and safety
