An exciting training opportunity has arisen within the Anaesthesia and Operating Services (AOS) Directorate, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for 2 Anaesthesia Associate Trainees.
We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated and professional individuals, to undertake this fantastic opportunity. You will have a passion for anaesthesia and healthcare and will be focused on delivering, safe and excellent perioperative care. The course is a 27-month training programme. Academically, the course is ran in conjunction with the University of Birmingham (distance learning Dip HE Anaesthesia Associate course). The practical and training aspects of the course will be delivered across the two main STH sites (The Royal Hallamshire and Northern General Hospitals).
You will be joining one of the pioneers and strong advocates of the AA (formerly Physicians' Assistant (Anaesthesia) role. STH currently has 10 AA's throughout the trust. The successful applicants will be joining a well-established, dynamic team who are leaders nationally in developing the advancement of the AA role. STH has achieved this status by implementing a rigorous and exemplary extended competencies package.

Main duties of the job
JOB PURPOSE
To work with the anaesthetic consultant body; to undertake theoretical and practical learning in line with the University of Birmingham AA curriculum and any specific STH local directed teaching in line with national and local guidance, policies and procedures.
ROLE OF THE DEPARTMENT
To provide high quality patient services and anaesthetic support to the Operating Services, Critical Care & Anaesthesia Directorate.

The Care Group manages 58 operating theatres, across the trust plus the theatre admission unit on the central campus, as well as recovery units and pre-operative assessment clinics across the Group.
The Directorates of Anaesthesia has 95 Consultant Anaesthetist and 86 trainee anaesthetists who provide care across most areas of the trust in the care of the ill patient. Also within Anaesthesia are the Acute and Chronic pain services
There are two critical care units, one at the northern campus with 36 beds, and the second based on the central campus with 18 beds with both units supported with outreach services.
