Job summary

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, energetic and positive Support Worker from an Allied Health Profession to our AHP Faculty team to work on a four month secondment (two months at three days a week, and two months at two days a week).

Alongside the AHP Workforce Development Leads, the successful applicant will work as part of the team on the implementation of the Support Worker Framework across both Health and Care organisations in South Yorkshire.

Main duties of the job

The overarching role of the Support Workforce Project Support Manager is to support the National AHP Support Workforce Programme, reviewing and mapping the current AHP support workforce. The role will involve research, networking (internal and external), and delivery of key work streams. The aim is to develop support worker roles and opportunities across South Yorkshire and to champion the AHP Support Workforce, improving equality, diversity and inclusion.

The post-holder will be the voice for support workers and work towards developing and delivering a range of activities to enable learning, enhancing the scope of practice, development and progression of this staff group. Good communication, teamwork and experience working as support worker are essential to this role.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Engage with a range of current AHP support workers to gather insights and intelligence across South Yorkshire (SY).

Review baseline workforce data and intelligence, including current workforce numbers, vacancy rates, workforce diversity, and staff satisfaction.

Collect and collate data and evidence of AHP support worker development.

Map the current workforce against the education requirements in the AHP Support Worker Framework.

Support the development of an 18-month AHP strategic workforce plan that builds workforce supply across all AHP professions and support staff.

Review AHP Support Worker diversity data and assist in development of a range of initiatives to attract a wider range of individuals from all backgrounds to enter the AHP support roles.

Support the SY ICB AHP Workforce Programme to achieve HEE Support worker project objectives and provide information for reports on activities, outputs and outcomes of the project.

Communication and relationships

Communicate effectively and appropriately information to AHP support worker colleagues and other stakeholders.

Raise the profile of the AHP unregistered workforce locally and nationally, through appropriate use of publicity, external communication and by contributing to steering/working groups.

Demonstrate effective communication skills with those who have difficulty with communication for any reason.

To establish and maintain two-way channels of communication to inform and engage, motivate, guide and support staff within AHP services.

Represent the views of the support workforce whilst encouraging participation and leadership at all levels.

Where appropriate, be the AHP Faculty support worker representative attending internal and/or external meetings and networks as required.

Present project feedback and updates to AHP Workforce Leads.

Analytical and judgement

Support the AHP Workforce Leads to ensure strong governance and quality framework is utilised including the setting and monitoring of standards.

Provide leadership and expertise in relation to the support workforce to AHP teams across South Yorkshire.

Review and reflect on own practice and performance through effective use of operational supervision and appraisal.

Use the HEE Support Worker Toolkit as a tool to measure project performance and contribute to finding solutions to ensure achievement of project objectives.

Planning and organisation

Contribute to the development of a career pathway for unregistered staff with associated learning, education and experiential requirements.

Identify and contribute to the development of multi-professional learning environments and opportunities.

Patient/Client Care

Respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of service users and colleagues and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.

Make recommendations for the AHP Support worker developments and programme of work in SY.

Ensure that the contributions and perspectives of AHP support staff are heard and valued, and influence shared decision making.

Ensure visibility of the role in clinical areas through engagement with frontline staff across a range of services and organisations.

Policy and Service Development

Contribute to the development of the AHP recruitment and retention strategy with particular relevance to the un-registered AHP workforce.

Lead on the development and delivery of identified projects by the AHP Support worker project lead.

Contribute to the development of quality indicators and metrics to evaluate the impact of changes in practice/roles and support ongoing transformation.

Finance and Physical Resources

Support and promote workforce planning, role redesign and skill mix opportunities to provide high quality efficient patient care whilst recognising workforce challenges and the demands of the services.

Work with AHP Leads to assess the requirement for apprentices.

Be aware of the project budget and ensure planned activities are within budget.

Human Resources
