Job summary
Whole-Time Consultant in Orthopaedics with a special interest in primary lower limb surgery to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust working cross site between the Northern General Hospital and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
The Orthopaedic department is about to undergo a reconfiguration which will see major investment in both staffing and infrastructure to both the elective and trauma service. From Spring 2023 elective surgical orthopaedics will be moved to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital from its current site at the Northern General Hospital to a new surgical facility containing an admission area, 4 laminar flow theatres with recovery, a Day Case ward, Inpatient Ward including an Enhanced Care Unit, and rehabilitation facilities.
This post is part of the growth in resources needed to deliver this model and an orthopaedic service that will be provided over two hospital sites, improving the elective service while maintaining the well established trauma service.
Main duties of the job
The appointee, together with consultant colleagues will be responsible for providing an elective Primary Lower Limb Arthroplasty surgery service at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
The post holder will participate in an on-call rota, providingOrthopaedic Trauma cover at the Northern General Hospital.
This post will enable the successful applicant to develop their elective surgery interests, subject to the needs of the service, to complement existing consultant staff.
The appointee will undertake elective outpatient clinics, elective operating sessions, on-call, subspecialty fracture clinics, ward round duties and associated administration.
The new Consultant will take equal responsibility with existing Consultants for the proper functioning of the Lower Limb Arthroplasty service and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
