Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Sheffield Haemophilia & Thrombosis Centre at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.You will be part of a well-established and expanding team at an exciting time in the development of the TTP service & network. Your role will be to work with the Consultant lead & lead nurse within the MDT to establish this service within the region and ensure the safety of patients with this rare and life threatening condition. The established team have experience of working with this condition and will support you to develop initially as a band 6 clinical nurse specialist progressing to a band 7 upon completion of key qualifications and experiential learning.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide professional and specialist care in the speciality of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) and related disorders and to act as a resource for education and clinical knowledge in hospital, network and community settings.
  • To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-professional healthcare team to achieve a coordinated specialist service.
  • To act autonomously and as part of the MDT, guided by current clinical protocols and research protocols and relevant investigations and procedures employed in the diagnosis and treatment of TTP and related disorders, including prescribing treatments as appropriate.
  • To have specialist knowledge and skills in the management of TTP and related disorders.
  • To offer an individual and comprehensive service and psychological support to patients and carers respecting their diverse cultural and ethical backgrounds.
  • To support the data management & clinical research facilities teams in maintaining local and national registries from which audits can be performed.
  • To participate in designing and delivering new care pathways and services and in the development and implantation of policy, standards, guidelines and protocols
  • To support the Matron and clinical nurse specialists, providing clinical and managerial expertise in all aspects of the speciality ensuring the highest standard of nursing care.
  • To work across hospital sites & the recognised regional TTP network where indicated and as the needs of the service change.

The trust has recently been awarded a successful bid to become a recognised NHS England designated centre for the care of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) across Yorkshire and Humberside

  • Promote specialist nursing interventions to meet the complex needs of patients and families/carers.
  • Provide support, advice, counselling and treatment to patients and their families/carers.
  • Provide education and support to promote autonomy and healthy living, reducing the need for hospital admissions.

  • First Level Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Advanced diploma nursing studies or equivalent
  • Shown degree level working or relevant specialist working experience
