This job is now closed

Job summary

The busy, vibrant and cohesive department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHSFT is currently looking to recruit a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in aortic and aorto-vascular surgery to join our existing team of 7 Consultant Cardiac Surgeons and 5 Thoracic Surgeons.

Should further posts arise, shortlisted candidates may be considered for shortlisting.

Applications from those unable, for personal reasons, to work on a whole time basis or a job share basis will be considered.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for suitably experienced individuals who can actively contribute to the development of our aortic and aorto-vascular services. The service is undergoing expansion to address demand and there are plans to develop a region-wide acute aortic dissection rota. There are separate on call rotas within the department for cardiac and thoracic surgery.

Further growth of the service is being achieved through greater partnership working with regional partner NHS trusts.

The appointee will be expected to take part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. Research is encouraged and full facilities are available.

The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice. You will also have completed Specialist Training and obtained CCT in Cardiothoracic Surgery (or equivalent).

About us

The department provides a comprehensive range of services for the secondary care population of Sheffield (0.53 million) and to the tertiary population of South Yorkshire/North Trent (1.8 million).

The Cardiothoracic Surgery service provides a sub-Regional service to the populations of Sheffield, Doncaster, North Derbyshire, Barnsley, Rotherham and North Nottinghamshire Health Authorities. We also have an established referral base from Mid Yorkshire Hospitals and York Teaching Hospitals FT.

The Surgeons have well established working relationships with Cardiologists and Respiratory Physicians in our surrounding District General Hospitals. We provide surgical cover for all MDTs in the region.
