Main duties of the job

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are looking to recruit experienced Nurses who are ready to develop both clinical and managerial skills.

To prepare, we are looking for colleagues who are willing to take on a supervisory role within our mass vaccination centre in Sheffield.

Job description

Job responsibilities

As a Sister/ Charge Nurse you will be responsible for:

  • Clinical supervisory role, overseeing a team of vaccinators.
  • Conducting pre-vaccination clinical assessments.
  • Reviewing patient medical histories and any potential adverse reactions.
  • Preparing the vaccine prior to administration by using aseptic technique.
  • Dilution and drawing up of the vaccine from multi-dose vials.
  • Setting up the vaccination station.
  • Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to policies and procedures.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the projects implementation and the timescales associated with this.

Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

We will notify the successful candidates as soon as possible with the Interview date. However due to the urgency of this project we are looking to interview via MS Teams imminently and hoping this will be the 21st January.

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse RGN Possess or working towards degree.
  • NMC registration.
  • Job-specific training, or must be willing to complete, in: Vaccination, Anaphylaxis and Basic Life Support.
  • Teaching / Mentoring qualification.
  • Further training or experience in a clinical supervisory position.
  • Completion of mentorship/preceptorship with evidence of post registration experience of developing service to improve patient care
  • Experience of working in a busy environment supporting a team
  • Evidence of participation in mass staff vaccination
  • Experience as a ward/department sister/charge nurse

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Working knowledge and literate with computer skills to use of word document, internet access and email. correspondence and electronic record keeping.
