Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for forward thinking Dietitian to join the Home Enteral Feed (HEF) Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The HEF Team consists of Specialist Dietitians, Senior Dietitians, a Assistant Practitioner and a Clerical Assistant.

We are a friendly, supportive and innovative department of around 60 dietitians, plus dietetic assistants across 3 hospital sites and the community. If this sounds like an exciting step within your career, then we would love to read your application.

You will be supported by the dietetic leads in the HEF team with excellent opportunities for professional and personal development, involvement in audit, service evaluation and research within your clinical specialty. We deliver nutrition teaching within a number of training programs and provide training to A,B & C placement students which you will be actively involved in.

This is a Part Time role for 22.5 hours a week.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the provision of high quality dietetic service to a clinical caseload in a designated speciality, using a high level of skills and knowledge as an independent practitioner.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of evidence based clinical and teaching practice. Providing specialist advice and education in the designated speciality.
  • To work within the Dietetic team in assisting in the operational management of the department.
  • To assist the dietetic management team to ensure the overall service provides high quality patient care, and in the management of clinical governance, resources and equipment.

  • Determine/diagnose the appropriate dietetic treatment and develop effective management plans in respect of planned medical intervention and prognosis.
  • Dietetic assessment and calculation of dietetic requirements of referred patients taking into account medical, biochemical, social, cultural, and psychological factors.
  • Provide nutrition and dietary advice suitable to the patients medical, biochemical, social and cultural factors which is based on current evidence, incorporating local professional and national guidelines and standards.
  • Negotiate with patients to enable them to achieve targets overcoming barriers to change including dietary, environmental, and social factors.
  • Monitor and review dietetic care plans against outcomes, manage, and adjust care plan to facilitate achievement of goals.
  • Ensure dietetic interventions can be implemented through continued collaborative interdisciplinary working in and outside Trust by attending and participating in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences.
  • Work in partnership with services in the provision of nutritionally adequate, normal, and therapeutic diets.
  • Ensure up to date and accurate records of all assessments and interventions in medical, nursing, and dietetic documentation in line with department, trust and government directives.
  • Ensure safe and timely discharge of patients by providing relevant information to key professionals and agencies and following relevant procedures
  • Train patients and carers to manage enteral feeding at home, either by pump or bolus administration of the feed, nasogastric or PEG tube care and how to deal with minor complications.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or relevant degree with Post Grad Diploma in Dietetics Current HCPC registration.

Desirable

  • BDA accredited clinical supervisory skills course for training students.
  • BDA accredited Behavioural change, counselling, motivational and cognitive behavioural skills courses

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial dietetic experience in a variety of clinical specialities
  • Evidence of independent working
  • Good knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and current best practice for dietetic management, especially Nutrition Support.
  • Competent in behavioural change skills.
