Job summary

Provide comprehensive and confidential administrative support for the Hepatitis C Specialist Nursing Team in the Department of Infectious Diseases & Tropical Medicine.in accordance with Departmental, Trust and national standards, policies and procedures. To act as a first point of contact for HCV service users and patients and outreach services, and as required act as a source of advice and guidance, supporting the speciality nursing team.

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine is an active unit with 33 dedicated beds, located on E-floor of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and with out-patient facilities adjacent to the ward area. The Department provides a seven-day a week demand led sub-regional specialty service, which is on take for admissions every day of the year. Patients are admitted as secondary and tertiary referrals from general practice, accident and emergency and transfer from other hospitals.

Main duties of the job

  • Communicate and work with patients, clinicians and other staff members from a variety of organisations.
  • Manage patient pathway for HCV patients
  • Provide day to day admin support for HCV Nurses

About us

The Department has an active out-patient service with dedicated clinics every week and dedicated staff for Hepatitis (B & C), HIV/AIDS and TB monitoring. There are in addition general infection medical clinics per week for new and follow up patients. There is an active and expanding service to deliver intravenous antibiotics as an out-patient thus avoiding or reducing the need for in-patient admission (OPAT Unit).

Candidates will be required to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, act as a first point of contact for HCV patients (Hepatitis C), service users and outreach services, and as a source of advice and guidance, supporting the specialist nursing team to access services and support the delivery the HCV CQUIN targets.

Job responsibilities

Providing clerical support to the Specialist Nurse Team duties will include

  • Administrative support for the ID HCV Specialist Nurses
  • The first point of contact for the patients and professionals
  • Signpost patients and professionals to the appropriate clinician
  • When appropriate, and under the guidance of the nursing team, make calls to patients / other professionals.
  • Deal with routine telephone enquiries and messages to the HCV team
  • General office management, photocopying and organisation.
  • Ordering supplies of patient information and resources or stationery supplies
  • Coordinate patient information ensuring is accessible available and up to date
  • Source patient notes for the nursing staff for documentation, meetings and audit.
  • Manage the Hepatitis Nurses: In-patient list, medication collection and ordering
  • Compile complex patient list and preparation for monthly MDT meetings
  • Pull and file the patient nursing notes for outpatient clinics
  • Distribute patient correspondence
  • Make, cancel and change appointments for patients using Trust systems
  • Data input
  • Assist with the organisation and provision of HCV outreach services
  • Liaise with radiology department to arrange ultrasound appointments
  • Processing patient referrals with outpatient team
  • Diary management for the Specialist nurse team
  • Administration of fibroscan database and upload scans onto EPR
  • Organise and coordinate teaching sessions including organise speakers powerpoint presentations
