Job summary
The Sheffield Ophthalmology Directorate are seeking to appoint a Substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist with a Special Interest in Ocular Onology. This post will be based predominantly at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
Sheffield is one of the 3 National Ocular Oncology Centres and the service also has close links with the Oncology, Radiology, Histopathology, OMFSl, ENT, Neurosurgical and other services, all based at RHH or the nearby Hospitals.

Main duties of the job
The appointee, together with Mr Sachin Salvi and Mr Paul Rundle, will be responsible for providing a world class National Ocular Oncology Service at Sheffield, caring for patients with eye cancer from all over the country. The candidate will be an integral part of the MDT and expected to link up with other specilities like histopathology, radiology, oncology in the trust and colleagues across the country. There is access to the Skull-base, Head and Neck, Skin and Neuro-radiology and other MDTs.
The appointee will participate in providing General Ophthalmology services including cataract surgery, emergency andan out of hours on call service.
There is a monthly joint Orbital-maxillofacial clinic and a joint thyroid clinic.
About us
The Ophthalmology needs of Sheffield are served by a single Department based mainly at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (RHH). The Ocular Oncology service is a national service delivered by 2 Consultants and supported by a team of experienced staff. Sheffield has been at the forefront of the use of virtual clinics and remote monitoring and this model has also been successfully implemented within the Ocular Oncology service.
The Northern General Eye Centre (NGEC) was also opened in May 2018 to provide Cataract outpatient and elective theatre activity in a state of the art facility that is unique to Sheffield. In addition to this the Directorate perform minor treatments within their own James West Treatment Centre and have access main theatres as well as a newly built Minor Operations Suite (MOPS) at RHH.
