Job summary

We have an outstanding Anaesthesia and Operating Services department which employs 800 staff including in excess of 120 consultant anesthetists.

The successful candidate will join our friendly and highly supportive team of neuroanaesthetists based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (RHH).

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Clinical Director.

Main duties of the job

This post is primarily based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and offers a good opportunity to deliver first class specialist clinical care and develop the specialty Service in a large university teaching hospital.

The role will include a range of neurosurgical procedures, including oncology (including an established awake craniotomy service), vascular, skull base, epilepsy, complex spine; and functional neurosurgery.

The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice. You will also have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within six months of the date of interview.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of interview
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent
  • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Appropriate training and experience in neuro anaesthesia and critical care
  • Experience in other aspects of patient care e.g. pre-op assessment, acute pain, PACU
