Job summary

Enthusiastic and motivated Medicines Management Assistants are required to support the ward based clinical pharmacy services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. The successful applicants will be able to demonstrate initiative and work to high standards of accuracy and reliability.

Main duties of the job

:

Label and dispense medication

Support the Clinical Pharmacist and Medicines Management Technician with medication supply

Collect and deliver medicines to and from wards and departments

Maintain appropriate drug stock levels at ward level or in theatres

Participate in the preparation of patients compliance aids

Manage medication wastage

Support the transfer of patients medication between wards

About us

The post will be based at the either the Northern General Hospital or the Hallamshire Hospital but you may be required to work in any of the sites across the trust when required.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide support in the delivery of a safe, effective, efficient and cost effective ward based medicines management service.
  • To provide support in implementing developments within clinical services to meet the needs of the patient.
  • To label, dispense and supply prescriptions.
  • To work flexibly between the hours of 8am and 8pm as part of the ward based and operational team in order to provide and maintain a comprehensive pharmaceutical service in line with current departmental polices and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services
  • Skills, labelling and dispensing module is essential and BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science or demonstrable equivalent qualification or experience and a willingness to work towards achieving NVQ III in Pharmacy Services
  • English and Maths GCSE grade C or above.
  • Microsoft Office Packages - evidence of short courses or relevant experience

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Public Services
  • Counter Assistants Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous and relevant experience working within a pharmacy environment
  • Previous and relevant experience & competence in labelling and dispensing of inpatient medication with instructions , TTOs or FP10s
  • Previous and relevant experience in stock control
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience of using pharmacy IT systems
  • Excellent customer service skills demonstrable from previous experience working within pharmacy

Desirable

  • Previous experience of communicating with patients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Experience of other dispensary duties including: oCollection and delivery of drugs to and from ward areas oWard drug top ups oEmergency trays oReception duties

  • Previous training or mentoring experience
  • Previous experience of patient counselling
