Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Cardiac Physiologist / Healthcare Science Practitioner to work as part of our Diagnostic Cardiology team. This post is an ideal opportunity for an individual who has recently qualified or is due to qualify at the end of this academic year.

The post holder will be required to cover procedures in non-invasive areas of Cardiac Physiology. The post holder will perform the following procedures within the non-invasive service; 12 Lead ECG, ambulatory ECG/BP analysis, ETT, autonomic function testing, and Tilt Table testing. Opportunities will be given to consolidate their knowledge and develop their skills and experience in invasive cardiology or echocardiography after a period of consolidation.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform ECG recordings on a variety of patients in an in-patient and out-patient setting..
  • Interpret 12 lead ECG recordings for any acute changes or abnormalities and take appropriate action in line with departmental protocols.
  • To provide factual reports on G.P. 12 lead ECG recording referrals
  • To fit ambulatory ECG monitors
  • To fit, analyse and interpret Event recorders.
  • To fit ambulatory Blood pressure recorders
  • To analyse 24 hour Holter monitor data using digital technology and a computer software programme installed on a PC.

Communication

  • Be able to communication through a variety of media to patient colleague and the wider public
  • Convey complex explanation of testing procedures to patient and colleague.
  • Communication effectively with individual who may have difficulty understanding.
  • Be involved with teaching and training within own work activity in the department and satellite hospitals.
  • To provide good communication skills with clinical, paramedical and the public, both adults and children.
  • Liaise with other health care professionals and maintain good relations
  • Provide complex analysis and interpretation of patients diagnostic test results.
  • Assimilate multiple factors that affect the interpretation and outcome of an investigation.
  • To correlate data and make decisions based on own interpretation and information within appropriate professional and clinical guidelines.
  • To provide a factual report and take appropriate action to ensure patient safety and treatment are maintained, in accordance with professional and clinical guidelines.
  • To assess referrals and direct to appropriate exercise treadmill test list based on the clinical information provided by the requesting doctor.
  • To act independently and make decisions based on own interpretation and information, within appropriate professional and clinical guidelines.
  • It is the post holders responsibility to assess the patients condition, blood pressure, ECG and any other relevant information for contra-indications prior to the test before the test can proceed.
