Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the Research and Innovation Finance Team. In return Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHSFT will support you to study. This support will be through an accounting apprenticeship. The apprenticeship combines working, earning a full-time salary, with fully funded part-time learning (equating to 20% off the job each week). This will give you the opportunity to gain a AAT, CCAB or CIMA Qualification, depending on your qualifications and level of experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist in the provision of comprehensive financial management support to all stakeholders of Clinical Research & Development (R&D) and Innovation both within and outside the Trust

The role will involve assisting in the maintenance and development of systems of monitoring R&D and Innovation activity and expenditure, for the timely recovery of income and for all aspects of budgeting and budgetary control.

This is an ideal role for an individual looking to gain experience of financial management in an expanding and challenging area of the Trust.

Be pro-active in the production of timely and accurate budget reports and supporting information in accordance with best practice, ensuring that the use of resources is optimised.

Will contribute to the documentation of procedures/working practices across Research and Innovation financial management.

Support the Research Accountant in the production of the annual Financial Plans, including the review of projects straddling the year end and potential impact.

As a member of the Financial Accounting Division of the Finance Directorate the Postholder will be required to undertake specific projects as determined by the Deputy Director of Finance (Financial Accounting) and/or Research Finance Manager.

  • AAT Qualified or CCAB/CIMA part qualified Honours Degree

  • Sufficient and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrably good IT skills, including advanced Excel level as a regular user
  • Effective working knowledge of management accounting
  • Demonstrable experience between financial and non-financial systems

  • Integra literate
  • NHS Finance experience

  • Production of budget reports
