Job summary
The Cardiothoracic Directorate provides high quality emergency, secondary, regional and national specialist services in Cardiology, Cardiac and Thoracic surgery. This role is pivotal in enabling the Directorate to provide a high-quality, comprehensive and professional administrative service to patients, relatives, carers and other internal and external stakeholders
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited from individuals with excellent secretarial and administrative skills who look forward to working within a busy and challenging environment. You will be able to provide evidence of exceptional organisational skills, as well as an understanding of patient pathways and patient care/experience.
The successful candidate will have excellent computer, audio and keyboard skills along with the ability to prioritise their own workload, have the ability to communicate effectively using a variety of media and have an appreciation of the need for confidentiality at all times. This post will be based at the Northern General Hospital.

Job responsibilities
- Communicate clearly and effectively with all internal and external Health Care Professionals and other clerical staff
- Comply with the Data Protection, Access to Health Records, Freedom of Information and related Acts of Parliament, health and safety procedures and confidentiality.
- Assist with the induction and training, of new and less experience members of staff or staff on work placements.
- Actively contribute to the smooth running and development of the department by sharing, discussing and implementing new ideas and ways of working with colleagues and Directorate staff. Daily, liaise directly, or take telephone calls from patients or carers who may be distressed or confused. Works effectively as a team, taking telephone calls, pass on messages and take agreed action for self and colleagues.
- Participate in mandatory training for fire procedures, moving and handling, IPRs, etc to meet the requirements of the KSF outline.
- Ensure skills are updated regularly through appraisals and further training.
