Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Business Unit in the Learning and Development Department (LDD). The team is expanding in response to the increase in demand for apprenticeships across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals including developing business models to respond to workforce need in key services.

Working as part of a small team, you will have a responsibility for supporting clinical and non-clinical services across the Trust work within the Apprenticeship Strategy and Policy. You will play a part in designing and developing innovative solutions to expand and support apprenticeship capacity by liaising with internal and external stakeholders such as clinical educators, Universities, and Health Education England to enable the team to provide a proficient and responsive service to provide quality apprenticeships for our staff.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for raising the profile, development, implementation, organisation and monitoring of apprenticeships in all disciplines and at all levels across the Trust. This will include leading on the management of all aspects of administration, meeting the ESFA needs with regards to levy and all contractual and legal responsibilities relating to managing a contract with external providers.

You will work at a strategic level offering advice, guidance and support to senior staff with regard to Apprenticeship development as part of the Trusts workforce transformation and skill mix commitment. You will also work at an operational level in support of specific activities for example, liaising with appropriate training providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring all aspects of legal compliance are both adhered to and maintained.

About us

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.

Job responsibilities

  • Be responsible for managing the effective planning, development, delivery and quality of the apprenticeship programme and day to day management of the apprenticeship function.
  • Play a pivotal role in the controlled expansion of apprenticeships across STH raising the profile and promotion of apprenticeships
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Trusts Apprenticeship Strategy and Apprenticeship Policy
  • Work with internal stakeholders in the development of apprenticeship activity
  • Manage the overall expansion and delivery of the apprenticeship program to track completion of all learners
  • Be responsible for the quality of the apprenticeship provision in terms of success, retention and progression and for the development and extension of apprenticeship programmes
  • Act as the main account holder for Digital Account, monitoring and reporting financial data to Head of Learning and Development and other internal stakeholders including Trust committees
  • Work alongside other L&D staff to build relationships with local schools and colleges to increase awareness and promote STHs apprenticeship offer
  • Work in partnership with our training providers for all contracted apprenticeship standards
  • Work in partnership with our Procurement department to manage the tender process
  • Liaising with key stakeholders such as HR, Procurement, Finance and relevant independent governmental organisations to ensure the process is legally and morally compliant
  • Keep rigorously up to date with ESFA and all other government initiatives relating to the development of the apprenticeship offer.
  • Ensure all internal stakeholders are informed of changes/amendments to relevant funding, legislative and regulatory policies, frameworks and procedures
  • Compile routine progress reports and report on key metrics and data
  • Liaise and act as the main focal point for all apprenticeship providers
  • Continually evaluate solutions for quality, business impact, scalability and sustainability
  • Conduct post-learning evaluation to understand successes and improvement
  • Educate managers on their role in supporting and developing apprentices as an essential part of their jobs
  • Act as the apprentices champion ensuring, where possible, barriers to success and completion are removed.
  • Identifying and managing preferred suppliers for training and ensuring set KPIs are met
  • Identify opportunities to promote apprenticeships through the Trusts internal communication team, the use of social media, newsletter etc

  • Post graduate qualification in a business/training/management/organisational development related field or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Chartered MCIPD or equivalent membership

  • Extensive knowledge and working experience of apprenticeships and their application in practice including the levy.
  • Extensive knowledge of the apprenticeship contracting negotiation process with training providers
