Main duties of the job

Online applications are invited for the post of Consultant Paediatrician in Sleep Medicine at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for someone who is experienced at managing both neurological and respiratory sleep disorders. The successful applicant will have completed specialty training in paediatrics, at least 1 year WTE in paediatric sleep medicine and have sub-speciality certification in sleep medicine. This is a permanent appointment.

Qualifications, Training & Experience

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration in paediatrics with a licence to practise
  • Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health
  • APLS certification of equivalent
  • Level 3 training in child protection
  • Minimum 12 months WTE experience working in a tertiary sleep service managing the full range of neuro-sleep and respiratory sleep cases
  • Qualification in sleep medicine (e.g. SPIN in paediatric sleep medicine, European Somnologist Certification)
  • Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching

Desirable

  • Qualifications in teaching, management or research
  • Experience in service development
  • Experience in audit and quality improvement
  • Experience in management
  • Experience in research and understanding of research practice and governance

Aptitudes and skills

Essential

  • Knowledge and clinical skills to provide a consultant led service in paediatric sleep medicine for both neuro-sleep and respiratory sleep
  • Ability to interpret polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing, actigraphy, home videosomnography, cardiorespiratory, oxi-capnography, pulse oximetry and ventilation titration studies.
  • Experience managing safeguarding concerns and working with safeguarding MDT
  • Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
  • Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
