Job responsibilities

Applications are invited for a full-time Clinical Fellow in Luminal Gastroenterology at University Hospital of Southampton (UHS).

40 hours of Monday - Friday working week with gastroenterology team, with weekend out of hours work if desired.

This is an exciting training post opportunity for 12 months (start date depending on candidate and extendable by mutual consent) working in a thriving academic Gastroenterology unit. The post can be tailor-made to the applicant's training and portfolio needs but has a focus on inpatient management of gastroenterology patients. Endoscopy and out-patient clinic experience can be provided depending on the applicants needs.

The successful applicant will join a team of 18 Consultant gastroenterologists, 4 registrars, 1 IMT3, 5 SHOs, 3/4 Foundation Year 1 doctors and 3 ACPs, supported by a range of specialist nurses and other allied health professionals working across 4 inpatient luminal gastroenterology teams (in rotation) . We are a large and busy unit providing general gastroenterology care as well as specialist endoscopy, IBD and Intestinal Failure services.

There are opportunities within the Trust for additional out of hours acute medicine/general medicine shifts.

Subjects must have completed core medical training, have MRCP (or at least past 2 written), at least 1 year NHS experience and have some experience in Gastroenterology and General Medicine with exposure other medical specialties.

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists). Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process. Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)
