Main duties of the job
We are seeking a forward-thinking Pharmacy Technician to join our new Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service at University Hospital Southampton. The role will be based partly within the OPAT team, and partly within the Medicines Management team, allowing you to develop a multitude of skills in a new and exciting opportunity.
OPAT enables patients to receive intravenous antibiotics at home or in an outpatient or community setting, avoiding unnecessary hospital stays while maintaining high standards of care. This role will make best use of your medicines management training, with responsibilities including counselling patients on antibiotic side effects, supporting IV self-administration training, coordinating medication supplies (including CIVAS-prepared products), and contributing to data tracking and management to support audit and service improvements.
There is significant scope to shape and expand the role beyond these core functions, depending on individual aptitude and preferences. This is a new service, offering a rare opportunity to shape the service and contribute meaningfully to its design and future direction. We are an open-minded, supportive team with a shared purpose and vision, committed to harnessing and developing individual skills to improve service delivery.
We are looking for someone digitally-minded, adaptable, proactive, who enjoys problem-solving and collaborative working.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team.
